Abstract:
Excerpts from talk by Secretary of Agriculture Charles F. Brannan at meeting of Future Farmers of America, Kansas City, Missouri, Tuesday, October 10, 1950: We must never let the social values of family farm living in this country be sacrificed in the name of mass "efficiency," so often used in an attempt to justify extension of industrialized farming operations. Instead, we must preserve and strengthen our method of family-type farming by improving the economic opportunities for family farmers, and by improving the opportunities for rural youth to stay in farming. We are strengthening democracy, whenever we strengthen the position of American agriculture.
