Purposeful Recreation for Personal Growth in Rural Areas, The Education-Extension Role

Abstract: Use of private land in rural areas for recreational facilities would provide a new source of income to the rural population while meeting increasing recreational needs. It is the role of the extension service at the state and local levels to educate the rural population in utilization of recreational resources. Important considerations in recreation resource development are attitudes of the rural family and nearby communities, management capabilities of the potential facility operator, and economic feasibility of the operation. education in this area must include motivation, explanation, organization, planning, and evaluation. Involvement of other state and local resources and agencies is valuable in achieving sound program development.
