Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station, Forest Service
No 414510, USDA Miscellaneous from United States Department of Agriculture
Abstract:
The sociologist and economist working on a forest where mining developments are occurring either in or near it must be aware of the potential impacts of mining on the economy and cultures surrounding the forest, and hence, on the management of that forest. This guide covers major points of concern to the sociologist and economist involved in mitigating the adverse effects of such minerals developments, including: land-management planning, issue identification and resolution, sociologic and economic tools for land managers, and role statements for the economist and sociologist in the context of minerals developments. Information includes supporting graphic material, notes on additional sources of information, a glossary, and an index.
