A method for estimating the value of transport service attributes

Abstract: This paper evaluates a method based on a conjoint measurement technique for estimation of value of transport service attributes. The technique uses ordinal rankings of shipper preferences to estimate each shipper's utility or preference function which, in turn, is used to estimate the change in consumer's surplus attributable to a change in service attribute. The method is applied to measure the value of increased sailing frequency in inter-island transportation.
