The EU olive oil policy, recent evolutions and perspectives

Abstract: This paper examines the recent evolutions of the European olive oil policy from the implementation of the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture to the last reform of the Common Agricultural Policy. It considers two important aspects of the Common Market Organization for olive oil, domestic support and market access. Indicators are used to estimate the level of support and protection benefiting to this sector. Some conclusions are drawn about the likely impact on olive oil producers of the new reform to be implemented in 2006.
