Abstract: Professional socialization refers to the acquisition of values, attitudes, skills and knowledge pertaining to a professional subculture. This paper reviews the literature about professional socialization and the dimensions that contribute to the process and definition of professional socialization. This literature analysis is undertaken of cognate professions because there is no direct literature relating to valuers. The summary of the legislative requirements within Australia and the membership requirements of professional valuation bodies are examined to determine if these include elements of professional socialization from a real world perspective.
