A Comparative Static Model of the Relationship Between Immigration and the Job Prospects of Unemployed Residents

Bruce Chapman and Deborah Cobb-Clark

CEPR Discussion Papers from Centre for Economic Policy Research, Research School of Economics, Australian National University

Abstract: Much of the debate surrounding the impact of immigration of the economy relates to the consequences of immigration for aggregate unemployment. In this paper we explore a related but more specific issue: the consequences of immigration on the probability of unemployed residents gaining a job. This question is not usually adressed in the literature.
