Abstract:
This essay addresses how non- profit organizations behave differently from for-profits and governments and particularly if nonprofit organizations behave differently from each other. Using technical and financial data for the whole universe of private Uruguayan non-profit health organizations for a period of 9 years (1982-1990)3, it is examined how different types of non-profit organizations show different behavioral patterns, regardless of legal environment and constraints on profit distribution.
