Juan Carlos Conesa and Carlos Garriga ()

No 42, Working Papers in Economics from Universitat de Barcelona. Espai de Recerca en Economia

Abstract: This paper uses a overlapping generation general equilibrium model to study a reform of the social security system, going from an unfunded to a funded system. We also analyze the effects of this reform on the incentives of young generations to acquire skills. the main objective is to evaluate the different dynamics generated conditional on the speed of the reform, exogenously specified, and to quantify the effects on individuals welfare. The model has been calibrated to the Spanish economy so that we obtain quantitative results for the Spanish case.
