Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate the importance of organisational evolution in ongoing transformation toward the innovative economy. Internationalisation, informatisation, innovativeness and global marketing, have all had a profound effect in shaping organisational behaviour and conduct. As a result of these global trends the capacity for organisational adaptation has become one of the crucial success factors in the business environment. The predominant focus of this paper is determining the fundamental forces bringing about the change in organisational evolution. A theoretical framework of five change forces and a competencies framework are presented. It is argued that adaptive evolution follows a sociological character of an individual. New socioeconomic trends bring new challenges for leadership, such as more social responsibility of organisations and self-actualisation of employees.
