Abstract: The art transportation market has not been the focus of many managerial studies. Nevertheless, its particularities and optimization potential that can be observed in practice bring up for discussion a new dimension of management. This paper analyses the characteristics of the art transportation market and, based on its optimization potential, develops cooperation strategies for logistics service providers. After presenting the main reasons for cooperation, different strategies for the three main cooperation directions – horizontal, vertical and lateral – are being described. The analysis shows that horizontal cooperation strategies have the biggest potential in this market, although they are, so far, seldom applied. Besides the general risks of cooperation, the most important reasons for this fact lie in the particularities of the art transportation market, where the relationship to the end customer has a central role for the business success. The study concludes with implications and useful recommendations to the art transportation companies.
