Abstract:
After a long period of divergence, over the past five years, the Southern Italian economy has resumed growing at a faster pace than the Centre-North. The economic recovery has been accompanied by some signs of strengthening in the production system and in the business environment. However, the gap in per capita income with the Centre-North remains exceptionally wide. In addition to documenting the current extent of the regional divide across multiple dimensions, this paper offers insights into and quantitative analyses on some of the development prospects for the Southern Italian economy.
