Abstract: Unlike other forms of investment, construction investment in France has still not returned to the levels seen before the 2008 crisis. The drop in construction activity had a significant negative impact on French employment and GDP growth up until 2016. In the case of housing construction in particular, despite a recent upturn, unfavourable demographic factors could again place a drag on investment growth going beyond 2017.

En France, l’investissement en construction n'a jamais retrouvé son niveau d'avant la crise de 2008, contrairement aux autres types d'investissement. La chute de la construction a fortement affecté négativement l'emploi et la croissance du PIB français jusqu'en 2016. S'agissant de la seule construction en logement, et malgré une reprise récente, les facteurs démographiques défavorables pourraient contraindre à nouveau la croissance de l’investissement au-delà de 2017.
