Abstract: Analysis of lifetime earnings (LTE) of individuals entering the labor market between 1967 and 1987 indicates that the gender gap declined over time in the US and in France. Women's LTE still amount however to only 60% (in the US) to 70% (in France) of those of men for the latest cohorts. Changes in working time and education have been key in explaining the evolution of the gender gap.

Si l’on analyse les revenus du travail entre 25 et 55 ans (lifetime earnings, LTE) pour les personnes entrées sur le marché du travail entre 1967 et 1987, on observe que l’écart entre les genres a diminué au fil du temps aux États-Unis et en France. Toutefois, pour les cohortes les plus jeunes, les LTE des femmes ne représentent toujours que 60% (aux États Unis) à 70 % (en France) des LTE des hommes. Les changements en matière de temps de travail et d’éducation ont joué un rôle essentiel pour expliquer l’évolution de cet écart.
