No 12, Working Papers from Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis

Abstract: This paper examines the nature and extent of poverty using the Household Income and Expenditure Survey 1984/85 and 1993/94 and goes on to give a synoptic view of Government's poverty alleviation strategies in which six policies and programs are reviewed. The paper draws heavily on the study of Poverty and Poverty Alleviation in Botswana 1996 commissioned by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
