Fancy graphics: Force-directed diagrams

Philippe Van Kerm

London Stata Conference 2020 from Stata Users Group

Abstract: This short talk discusses and illustrates implementation of force-directed diagrams in Stata. Force-directed layouts use simple stochastic simulation algorithms to position nodes and vertices in a two-way plot. They can be used in a range of data visualisation applications, such as network visualisation, or representation of clustering and relationships among observations in the data. We will discuss implementation, examine some examples and discuss pros and cons of using Stata for producing such displays.
