The EUROMOD Preparatory Study: A Summary Report

Abstract:
This paper summarises the results of the EUROMOD Preparatory Study which was established to explore the potential and feasibility of building a Europe-wide tax-benefit microsimulation model. The paper describes what is meant by microsimulation, explains the rationale for a Europe-wide model and discusses the type of microsimulatiom model to be built, making particular rererence to the treatment of behavioural responses. It surveys the available sources of micro-data, discusses the particular data needs of a policy simulation model and reviews computing and software options.
