Extending Medicaid and CHIP Coverage for Children: Long-Run Budgetary Effects of the President’s 2025 Budget Proposal

Congressional Budget Office

No 60666, Reports from Congressional Budget Office

Abstract: The President’s fiscal year 2025 budget includes a proposal to let qualifying children remain covered by Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program either for three years or from birth through age 5 regardless of changes to their family’s circumstances that might affect their eligibility. In this report, CBO describes how the impact of that proposal on children’s enrollment in Medicaid and CHIP over the next 10 years would affect the U.S.
