Availability and Use of Aircraft in the Coast Guard
Congressional Budget Office
No 61804, Reports from Congressional Budget Office
Abstract:
In analyzing the availability and use of aircraft by the U.S. Coast Guard from 2006 to 2024, CBO found that the number of aircraft, their availability, and total flying hours have all decreased. Flying hours for H-65 helicopters, about half of the Coast Guard's fleet, have decreased markedly since 2019. In general, Coast Guard aircraft fly much more than similar Department of Defense (DoD) aircraft, but their availability rates are about the same as those of DoD's aircraft.
