Abstract:
CBO describes its projections of the federal budget and the U.S. economy under current law for this year and the decade that follows. In those projections, the federal budget deficit in fiscal year 2026 is $1.9 trillion and grows to $3.1 trillion in 2036. Federal debt held by the public rises from 101 percent of GDP in 2026 to 120 percent in 2036. Real GDP grows by 2.2 percent in 2026 and then slows, averaging 1.8 percent per year from 2027 to 2036.
