Institutions and market socialism: the regional dimension of the reforms in Chinese economy

Abstract: Institutional change is considered as a key feature in the process of development. The changing role of central plan in Chinese economy suggests the emergence of new actors and some problems of adjustment. The topic of this paper is to show how regional governments have been in the same time political and economic actors. the political institutions which exist during the Mao period permitted the setting up of economic institutions where local government have the central role.
