Abstract: The theoretical and empirical model presented here aims to demonstrate that strikes played a key role in social and political changes that reshaped French society from 1950 to the mid-80's. This model is based on the differentation between 3 categories of strikes: localized disputes, strike waves and generalized disputes, and national action days, whose determinants and impact on the fabric of French society were significantly different.
