Abstract: This paper analyzes the behavior of the historical series of a set of prices of food products and other and consumption products of household in Belo Horizonte, raised for "Cesta-Smab" in diverse supermarkets of the city in the years of 1999 and 2000. It approaches the main characteristics of the recent process of reorganization of the retail sector in Brazil and according to uses crossings special of the information gotten for primary research of the supermarkets. The surprising gotten conclusions demonstrate that to the nets of supermarkets and the great store as them to hiper markets they had not occupied the position of leadership in prices in these years, with the predominance of medium and small supermarkets in offer of the lesser cost.
