The Allied Occupation of Japan in Retrospect

Abstract: 1995 was the fiftieth anniversary of the start of the Allied Occupation of Japan which lasted until 1952 and was a significant period in Japan's history. In order to make an assessment of the occupation a symposium under the title 'Allied Occupation of Japan' was held on 14 December 1995. Professor Richard B Finn who gave a paper on 'The Allied Occupation of Japan and its Legacy', and Dr Chris Aldous' paper was about 'The Limits of Democratisation: Policing the Black Market in Occupied Japan (1945-52)'.
