Abstract: (English) In this paper we present the trends over the last decade of some of the most significant indicators regarding the attention dedicated to scientific research by the EU member countries. In particular, we consider the number of researchers, both as total number and full-time equivalent, the share of researchers in total employment, the number of graduates and the one of PhDs. We also analyse the differences between the various productive sectors and disciplines. Some of the indicators are compared with the corresponding values of the United States, Japan, China, and the total of OECD countries. While overall for the EU-27 countries there is a substantial increase over time in the percentage of researchers in the active population, the situation is highly differentiated between the different EU countries, even among nations with similar characteristics regarding their research and innovation systems. (Italiano) In questo lavoro vengono presentati alcuni degli indicatori più significativi dell’attenzione dedicata alla ricerca scientifica dalle nazioni appartenenti all’Unione Europea e la loro evoluzione nell’ultimo decennio. In particolare, vengono considerati il numero dei ricercatori, sia in numero totale sia in equivalente a tempo pieno, la percentuale di ricercatori sul totale degli occupati, il numero di laureati e quello dei dottori di ricerca. Vengono inoltre analizzate le differenze tra i diversi settori produttivi e disciplinari ed alcuni degli indicatori sono confrontati con gli analoghi valori negli Stati Uniti, in Giappone, in Cina e nel totale delle nazioni OCSE. Anche se nel complesso dell’EU27 si riscontra nel tempo un sostanziale aumento della percentuale dei ricercatori sulla popolazione attiva, la situazione risulta essere molto differenziata tra i diversi paesi dell’Unione, anche tra nazioni con analoghe caratteristiche riguardo ai propri sistemi di ricerca ed innovazione.
