Abstract:
The following paper looks at the determinants and dynamics of private household bankruptcy in Germany for the period 1990-2015. Firstly, a broad review of the literature concerning household debt structure is made having in mind the last global financial turmoil period. Based on this, the main elements found to be responsible for this phenomenon are analyzed. Finally, policy recommendations will be presented for the German scenario with the aim of reducing the number of bankruptcy cases at the macro-level.
