Abstract:
This article aims to expose the discrimination based on race, which has historically prevented African Americans from participating, both academically and professionally, in the economic discipline and in the design and execution of economic policies. The first part of the article addresses the prejudices around race and how they permeate the economic discipline. Subsequently, it is shown how this discrimination extends to the understanding of the economy and the formulation of economic policies. Finally, a reflection is presented, on the ethical and economic costs of discrimination and how we can move forward to eliminate it.
