Technical and technological education, an urgent task for development in latin america and the caribbean

Abstract:
The enhancement of quantity and quality of technical and technological education has the potential to promote employment among the young and labor formality in Latin America and the Caribbean. Therefore, it is urgent to reduce information asymmetries between young laborers, enterprises, and technical and technological institutions; to interconnect the parts of the education system; to guarantee the pertinence of curriculums; and to focus public expenditure in the regions that need it the most. This text presents the context of youth unemployment and of technical and technological education in the region. Then, their effects on employment and income are discussed and finally certain routes of action are proposed.
