La economía del desarrollo como un producto del contexto

Abstract: This text aims to analyze the emergence of development economics as a discipline from its respective historical context. Through a literature review, it is exposed how the time of the second world war and the postwar period were marked by items like the emergence of new independent countries after the collapse of colonial empires, the Cold War and the political aspirations of Great Britain. Based on those events, it is possible to understand the importance of real income per capita and intervention in the theories and policy proposals of the first generation of development economists. Then, it is possible to demonstrate that the discipline of development economics and its first approaches were born in response to the demands of the corresponding specific context.
