Abstract:
This document seeks to answer the question: why was the Colombian industry lagging at the time of the economic opening and what were the causes for the fall of the Industrialization model by Import Substitution (ISI)? For this purpose, two economic models will be presented and contrasted in the pursuit of industrialization in Colombia, followed by an examination of the incidence of the economic opening model after the year of 1991 through indicators and evidencing the causes of the debacle of the ISI model. The document is mainly based on the publications of Misas Arango, Bértola and Ocampo.
