Abstract:
The following document is a first search of the potential growth at the electric sector in Colombia, aimed at the continuous and growing export of electric energy to the markets of Central America. The paper begins with a description of energy supply and demand in Central America to examine gaps in the market supply that could be met by the national electricity sector. Second, a description is made of the current state of the generation and transmission of electric power nationwide. This section includes mention of the Colombia - Panama energy transmission project. Third, it studies some economic advantages that the country could have in commercial terms and possible existing regulatory frameworks, and finally, some conclusions are presented.
