Santos y el presupuesto de las universidades públicas colombianas

Econógrafos, Escuela de Economía from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, FCE, CID

Abstract: In March 2011 the government of President Santos issued a proposal to reform the higher education system in Colombia. About four months later the government released a new version of the proposal, which introduces marginal changes to the public universities? financing scheme outlined in the original proposal. This article shows that public universities would be adversely affected in the mid and long term as a result of the ongoing education reform, in terms, in particular, of the funding from the national budget per student. A central conclusion is that the government's proposal would hinder public universities from effectively contributing to the sought-after expansion of coverage in good quality higher education.
