Características de la oferta de la educación media en Colombia

Abstract: Presentamos una descripción detallada de la educación media oficial en Colombia. Nos concentramos en el tamano de la matrícula y la oferta, las características de los docentes y directivos docentes, características de ciertos procesos educativos y prácticas pedagógicas, la calidad medida por el desempeno académico de los estudiantes, sus competencias socioemocionales y sus expectativas frente a su proyecto de vida futuro. Se hace la caracterización usando dos desagregaciones de las sedes que ofrecen educación media: zona (rural o urbana) y carácter (académico o técnico). Mostramos que hay diferencias importantes entre sedes urbanas y rurales pero no entre sedes que ofrecen educación media académica y técnica. ***** We present a detailed description of the official high school education in Colombia. We concentrate on the size of the enrollment and the offer, the characteristics of teachers and teaching directors, characteristics of certain educational processes and pedagogical practices, the quality measured by the academic performance of the Students, their socio-emotional competences and their expectations regarding their future life project. The characterization is done using two disaggregations of the schools that offer secondary education: Zone (rural or urban) and character (academic or technical). We show that there are important differences between urban and rural but not between venues offering academic and technical secondary education.
