No 910, CIRIEC Working Papers from CIRIEC - Université de Liège

Abstract: This report seeks to sketch the main features of the Austrian waste sector. Focusing on the characteristics of the service provision, the paper outlines the legal and regulatory framework that governs the sector. In addition to industry structure and supply modes, also the specific details of the very advanced recycling system are discussed. Finally, the mechanisms ensuring financing of waste services and supervision and monitoring of quality related aspects complete the paper. Where possible, the report tries not only to give an account of the current situation but also explain the evolution of the institutional arrangements.
