Abstract: : The main objective of this paper is to provide a concise overview of the fisheries and aquaculture industries at European and Italian level. The European Commission has recently highlighted the necessity to evaluate the performance of these sectors due to the decline of fish stocks. For this reason, strict rules oblige the Member States to manage fish stocks safeguarding natural resources and, at the same time, the productivity of the industry. The present study aims at providing not only a comprehensive analysis but also at offering remarks and observations helpful to understand the role of this economic activity in Italy and Europe.Length: 24 pages Keywords : fishery, aquaculture, public policies
