Abstract:
This paper presents new historical estimates for Spai:n' s GDP that linked to revised post-1954 National Accounts provide a consistent series from 1850 to 1993. An output approach is used to reconcile sectoral with aggregate economic activity. Quantitative conjectures on Spain's performance OVAr the long run are derived froro the new historical accounts that challenge established interpretations and supply a more pl~usible picture of the spanish past.
