Abstract: This work presents a descriptive analysis of statistical research in Europe in the period 1985-1997. Research productivity is measured by using the volume of articles published in a set of journals with high impact index. We present a comparison of the research productivity of the different countries in the period, and study the dynamic evolution by comparing the first and the last five years in the sample. This type of analysis is also applied to obtain a comparison of the statistical research institutions in Europe.
