Abstract:
During 2006 and 2007, a selection of research papers, in the main written by labour law experts, have provided critical input and guidance on the nature of the debate around the efficiency of the labour regulatory environment in South Africa. In November 2007, key stakeholders from government, labour and business attended a workshop on the Labour Regulatory Environment in South Africa at the Mount Grace Hotel, Magaliesberg, where the results of the aforementioned studies were presented and debated. Labour law experts generally agree that the current challenges in the regulatory environment have arisen disproportionately from the improper realisation of the labour market reforms introduced in the mid-1990s.
