Abstract: The paper analyzes the various systems of capitalism and the differences among the scheme of the principal countries. While the private ownership of the means of production is present in the most countries, there are differences in the activity played by the State, by the market and by the institutions. The effect of the different systems is reflected into the ownership structures of the firm, the corporate governance, the scope and coverage of the social welfare system, the role of financial markets and the employment level. The paper considers also the difficulties due to the globalization, the way to capitalism of transition and emerging countries. At the end, it analyzes the world perspective connected with the emerging economies, after the financial crisis of the last years.
