Development Economics Working Papers from East Asian Bureau of Economic Research

Abstract: The loss of ecosystem services due to industrial pollution in the Noyyal River Basin was estimated through physical research studies of water and soil quality and bio-mapping followed by economic valuation. Estimates of the loss to the agriculture, drinking water, and fisheries sectors were made on an annual basis and also capitalized. Compensation was awarded by the Loss of Ecology Authority to the affected farmers to be paid by industry.
