Trade Working Papers from East Asian Bureau of Economic Research

Abstract: India, Brazil, and South Africa (IBSA) derive from worlds three continents, which together share 20 percent of world population and 10 percent of world surface area and contribute 4 percent of world GDP and 2 percent of world trade. This paper finds that one of the strongest barriers to trade at present in IBSA appears to be the weak transport connectivity. The present study explores the possibilities of strengthening transport network in IBSA to deepen the trilateral cooperation. The paper calls for urgent task to adopt communication enhancement policy in IBSA to attain a modest growth in regional trade.
