Abstract: The preliminary results in this paper show that high productivity is significantly associated with high levels of human capital measured in different ways. Results indicate that labour productivity in businesses in the top quintile of the productivity distribution have around 4.5 times higher productivity than businesses in the bottom quintile and around 90% percent higher measures of market value human capital. We also conclude that the experience part of human capital is less important in determining productivity than the education and other unobservable components of human capital.
