Abstract: 1. Rasgos generales de la evolución reciente En un entorno externo en general favorable, en 2005 la economía hondureña aumentó 4,1%, aunque por debajo del 5% del 2004. El desempeño del producto interno bruto (PIB) fue liderado por la demanda interna. Pese a los elevados precios de los combustibles, la inflación anual disminuyó a 7,7% desde el 9,2% del 2004. La tasa de desempleo abierto nacional descendió, de 5,9% en mayo del 2004 a 4,1% en septiembre del 2005, a pesar de la moderada desaceleración del crecimiento. El déficit en cuenta corriente de la balanza de pagos registró la proporción sin precedente de sólo 0,5% del PIB, a la vez que mejoraron las cuentas fiscales. General features of the recent evolution In 2005, the Honduran economy experienced a generally favourable external environment, conditions under which the Honduran economy grew by 4, 1%, which however constituted a lower growth rate than the 5% experienced in 2004. The performance of the gross domestic product (GDP) was driven by domestic demand. Despite the high fuel prices, the annual rate of inflation decreased to 7,7% from 9,2% in 2004. The national open unemployment rate dropped from 5, 9% in May of 2004, to 4, 1% in September of 2005, despite a moderate slowdown in economic activity. The current balance account deficit registered an unprecedented amount of only 0, 5% of GDP, while the fiscal balance improved.
