Abstract: 1. Rasgos generales de la evolución reciente En 2005 el producto interno bruto (PIB) real de Costa Rica aumentó fuertemente, de modo que se consolidó la expansión de la economía registrada en los dos años anteriores. El crecimiento del producto (5,9%) superó casi en dos puntos porcentuales al de 2004, impulsado por el dinamismo de las exportaciones (12,6%), que obedeció principalmente a la recuperación de las ventas externas de microprocesadores producidos por la planta Intel, así como al dinamismo del turismo y de los servicios internacionales prestados a empresas. En términos por habitante, el PIB avanzó 4,1%. En cambio, el ingreso nacional disponible subió 1,9%, a raíz de las pérdidas generadas por el deterioro de los términos del intercambio. General features of the recent evolution In 2005, the real gross domestic product (GDP) of Costa Rica grew substantially, consolidating the economic expansion registered during the two previous years. The growth rate of GDP (5,9%) exceeded the rate of 2004 by almost two percentage points, and was brought on by the buoyancy of exports (12,6%), that was driven mainly by the recuperation of external sales of microprocessors produced by the Intel plant, as well as the dynamism of tourism and international business services. GDP per inhabitant increased by 4,1%. In contrast, the national disposable income rose by 1,9%, due to the deterioration of the terms of trade.
