United States-Latin America and the Caribbean Trade Developments 2026

-

Oficina de la CEPAL en Washington (Estudios e Investigaciones) from Naciones Unidas Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL)

Abstract: In 2025, Latin America and the Caribbean accounted for 19.5% and 22.2% of United States total trade and goods trade, respectively, down from 2024, reflecting stronger global trade rather than weaker regional trade, with a limited regional contribution to the surge in non-monetary gold trade. Latin America and the Caribbean, driven by Mexico, remained a net exporter of goods to the United States, whose goods trade deficit with the region widened to US$ 156 billion given imports up 4.7% to US$ 705 billion and exports up 2.5% to US$ 549 billion. In 2025, the region accounted for 12.5% of total services trade for the United States, which remained a net exporter of services to the region with exports of US$ 156 billion and imports of US$ 112 billion that resulted in a services surplus of US$ 43 billion. This report, prepared annually by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean office in Washington D.C., reviews major trends in trade relations between the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean.
