Abstract:
Significant gender and ethnic wage gaps have been observed in New Zealand in the last two decades. This paper analyses these wage gaps by estimating selectivity-corrected earnings equations and performing wage decomposition using data from 2003 in order to identify whether the observed wage differentials are due to differences in people's productivity-related characteristics. Estimating selectivity-corrected earnings equations and performing Blinder-Oaxaca decompositions. Almost the entire gender wage differentials are found to be due to discrimination.
