Abstract: (WP13/02 Clave pdf) The advent of the so-called ´Internet bubble´ has brought back the issue of rigorous versus relevant research: in fast-moving environments, academic research might be sometimes too slow or too afasted from reality to serve as a true decision instrument for companies. Under such circumstances, many firms may decide to rely in other sources of knowledge, such as consultancy or market research firms. In the present opinion article, a point is made about the lack of rigor of these sources of knowledge, and how these research reports may have damaged firms´ profitability by abandoning the traditional academic review cycle and incurring in the worst methodological mistakes
