Abstract: This paper assesses the financial leasing industry and its role in enhancing financial intermediation in various MENA countries. The approach followed involves critical and comparative analyses of financial indicators, as well as review of legal, regulatory, and institutional frameworks in the selected countries. The paper identifies impediments, and sets out various policy recommendations on promoting the role of the financial leasing sector in deepening financial systems, and enhancing enterprises access to finance, especially small-scale ones. It is evident that various countries in MENA have made major strides in recent years towards developing financial leasing, however various challenges still remain ahead.
