The Quality of Life of Palestinians under a Chronic Political Conflict: Assessment and Determinants

Abstract: This paper assesses the quality of life of Palestinians and its determinants; and compares the results to similar assessments from 17 other developed and developing countries. An adapted version of the WHOQoL-Bref instrument was administered to a sample of 1008 adults selected from the general Palestinian population. Factor analysis and multiple regression techniques were implemented to determine the association between principle demographic and socioeconomic characteristics and scores of extracted principal determinants, and estimated overall and domain-specific QoL scores. Chronic and acute exposure to violence and entrenched conflict over generations has resulted in significantly lower QoL of Palestinians.
