Abstract: EUROMOD is a tax-benefit microsimulation model covering all 15 European Union countries. It is currently being constructed by a team from 18 institutions, co-ordinated by the Microsimulation Unit in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Cambridge, with the financial support of the European Commission programme of Targeted Socio-Economic Research (TSER). This project is due to finish at the end of the year 2000. However, the objective is to build a model that is flexible and durable and that will be of use in a range of contexts and for many years to come. The purpose of this paper is twofold: to provide an introduction to the model and its potential uses; and to give information about the current construction project, its activities, organisation and participants.
